On Saturday March 11th, we will be welcoming back All-Star Defenceman Andrew Hotham for a celebration of his career with the Devils.

Hotham played for the Devils for 4 seasons, from the 2014-15 through to the end of the 2017-18 season.  He was selected to the Elite League’s First All-Star team all 4 seasons and won the EIHL Defenceman of the Year all four seasons of his Devils career. He also won the EIHL Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season.

On the ice, he was an offensive machine, averaging over a point per game over 4 years:

  • 2014-15 – 18 goals and 33 assists for 51 points in 52 league games
  • 2015-16 – 12 goals and 42 assists for 54 points in 51 league games
  • 2016-17 – 10 goals and 43 assists for 53 points in 50 league games
  • 2017-18 – 18 goals and 43 assists for 61 points in 56 league games

His championship total was even more impressive, winning 2 Challenge Cups, 2 League titles and finishing his Devils career off with the first playoff title since 1999.

Hotham was at his best in the biggest games, scoring two of the biggest goals in team history with his end to end rush to score against the Giants in Belfast to lift the Elite League title for the second year in a row (2017-18) and his goal in the Playoff Final a few weeks later.

Todd Kelman spoke about Andrew Hotham:

“Hoth was one of Andrew Lord’s first signings when we took over the team in the summer of 2014.  Lordo said he was going to be one of the best defencemen in the league.  He wasn’t one of the best, he was THE best in the league by a mile for his 4 seasons.

“He was a big-game player and the dominant defenceman at both ends of the ice over his 4 years in the EIHL. He was also a real character, loved by the fans and by his teammates.

“The owners and I spoke a few years back about how important it is to recognise the guys that contributed to the success in our era, since we took over in 2014.  Then Covid hit and we sort of forgot about it last season.  We wanted to get this idea of “Legends Night” back on track and there is nobody more deserving than Andrew Hotham.

“I am looking forward to seeing Hoth and his wife Ashley in March to celebrate his career as a Devil.  The 4 owners will be joining us that weekend for both games (March 9th v Manchester and March 11th v Coventry) and to catch up with one of their all-time favourite Devils.”
