The Cardiff Devils are a Welsh Ice hockey team who play in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League
The Devils were founded in 1986, and were assembled by former pro hockey player and British Ice Hockey Hall of Famer, John Lawless. The club became a dominant force in British Hockey in the late 1980s and early 1990s, winning a total of seven league titles.
The Devils have played out of 3 locations – the Wales National Ice RInk (1986 - 2006), the Big Blue Tent (2006 - 2016), and Ice Arena Wales (March 2016 - present). Our current home in Cardiff Bay's International Sport Village, has capacity for 3,103 spectators on match night.
In July 2014, the team was purchased by a consortium of Calgary-based businessmen – Steve King, Brian Parker, Kelly Hughes and Craig Shostak. They also appointed Todd Kelman as Managing Director of the Cardiff Devils. In their first full season, the ownership group transformed the Cardiff Devils into a league powerhouse. The team went from ninth place to winning the 2014-15 Challenge Cup. They also nearly won the league.
The 2015-16 season saw the Devils make it to the Challenge Cup final, finish second overall, and win the Erhardt Conference. In the 2016-17 season, the Cardiff Devils won the Erhardt Conference for the second straight year. The team also won the Challenge Cup for the second time in three seasons, and took home the league title for the first time in 20 years.
The 2017-18 season saw the Devils win their second Elite League title in a row and their third Erhardt Conference title in a row. The team also won the Playoff Championship for the first time in 19 years. The Devils continued their success in the 2018-19 season by lifting the Playoff Championship trophy for a second year in a row.
Since the new ownership took over, the Devils have won 3 Erhardt Conference titles, 2 Challenge Cups, 2 League Championships, back-to-back Playoff titles and 2 BBC Sport Wales Team of the Year Awards.
Today, the Cardiff Devils attract sell-out home crowds seeking a unique and thrilling entertainment experience – on and off the ice.
