Defenceman River Rymsha is the latest new face for the Cardiff Devils. The smooth skating defender comes to Cardiff from the Heilbronner Falken of the German DEL2 where he scored 4 goals and 16 assists in 34 games last season.

Before playing in Germany, Rymsha played a season in the Czech Republic and two seasons in Slovakia.  He spent the 2020-21 season in HC Detva where he played with Trevor Cox, scoring 7 goals and 21 assists in 48 games.

The following season, he teamed up with Jamie Arniel (who recently signed with the Devils) in Poprad, Slovakia where he scored 6 goals and 19 assists in 47 games.

The 26 year old American played his university hockey with Dartmouth for 4 years before turning pro in 2019-20 with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

New Head Coach Pete Russell coached against Rymsha last season and had this to say about his latest signing:

“River is a solid two way defenceman with good size and mobility.  He will play on the top 4 anywhere.  He kills penalties, he blocks shots, he also has a physical element in the right areas. He is solid defensively and he plays with high compete every shift.

“I saw a bit of River closely last year and he played really well against us in the DEL2 in Germany, so I know what he brings to a team.  He has good character, is a gamer and is desperate to continue to grow as a player. All reports on him are that River comes to play every day and is a great teammate.

“We are delighted to add River to our group for the season ahead.”
