Former Storm defender expected to play today
Marc McNulty who most recently was with the Manchester Storm will play for the Devils today against Dundee. With Mark Louis expected to miss at least 3 weeks, McNulty was quick to jump at the chance to continue playing in the UK.
The 26-year-old Canadian was drafted by Detroit Red Wings in 2013 (169th overall) and standing at a towering 6’ 7”, McNulty is unsurprisingly known for his defensive style.
The defenceman developed his craft in the highly competitive WHL junior league with Prince George Cougars, Kamloops Blazers and Moose Jaw Warriors. From 2012-2016, McNulty amassed 264 WHL appearances and produced an impressive 43 goals and 93 assists during this period.
Once the blueliner had completed his time in the WHL, he went on to sign with in the USports League with Acadia University, playing 75 games over 4 seasons.
Upon the completion of his studies, McNulty headed to the Hungarian outfit of Fehérvári Titánok for his first professional campaign. The cross-border Erste Liga was impacted by the global pandemic in 2020-21, but McNulty still managed 24 points (5G 19A) in 35 games.
“We are bringing him in to give us another solid defenceman while Mark Louis recovers from injury,” explained Devils MD Todd Kelman, “but this is also a great opportunity to earn a spot with us for the remainder of the season if he plays well.”
Louis and forward Stephen Dixon were both injured in Wednesday’s away leg of the Challenge Cup quarterfinal in Dundee. Although Dixon is expected to be back playing in the next week or two, Louis could be out longer. The Devils medical team will be assessing both players again next week.
McNulty did not play for the Storm last night in the Devils 3-2 overtime win. He travelled back with the team last night ahead of today’s clash with Dundee at 6pm.
