5 player announcements and 3 jerseys were revealed at this years summit in Calgary.
The first announcement was the return of Cardiff born Matthew Myers, who is back with the Devils for his testimonial year and his 16th EIHL season. The Playoff win in April was Matthew's 20th EIHL trophy, making him the most decorated player in the league.
The second announcement of the night was a new player to the league. Masi Marjamäki joins the Devils from Piráti Chomutov in the Czech Republic. Born in Pori, Finland, Masi has played over 150 AHL games, 300+ Liiga games as well as games in the KHL, Allsvenskan and 1 NHL game for the New York Islanders. Masi will wear the #15 as a Devil.
Next up was confirmation that Stephen Dixon will be back for a second season in Cardiff after an impressive first season with the Devils where he picked up the ‘Players player of the year’ award voted on by his teammates, which is a testament to the respect he has earned in the locker room for his consistency and work ethic both on and off the ice. His style of hockey quickly saw him win over the Red Army, which led to him also taking home the ‘Red Army Travel Player of the Year’ award.
The fourth announcement was the re-signing of Matt Pope who is back for his third season in Cardiff. Since joining the Devils in 2017, Matt has played 149 games and scored 49 goals and added 89 assists for 138 points in total. Standing at 6’2” and 200 lbs., he is an imposing figure on the ice who isn’t afraid to grind it out in the corners.
The final player announcement of the night, was Blair Riley joining from EIHL rivals Belfast Giants who he spent 3 seasons with, wearing the ‘C’ for two. He won the league, conference and challenge cup last season as well as the Challenge Cup in the 2017-18 season. The 33-year-old from Kamloops, BC, played 211 for the Giants across all competitions, scoring over a point a game with 230 points in those games (90 + 140). Blair will wear the #25 for the Devils.
Lastly, the jersey reveal which was also the reveal of a new jersey style (logo and number stiched which the rest of the jersey sublimated).
