Andrew Lord | Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations
The 2019/20 season will be Lord's 6th season as Head Coach. Last season, he led the Devils to their 2nd consecutive Playoff Title. In 2018/19, Lord won a second Elite League title in a row, the Erhardt Conference title and finished the season by ending the 19-year wait for a Playoff Championship. He also picked up his 2nd Elite League Coach of the Year Award voted on by the coaches and GMs throughout the EIHL.
During his first 3 seasons as coach, Lord doubled up as a player/coach, but midway through the 2017-18 season, he moved into his current role as a full-time bench coach. In his 5 years in charge, he has won 9 titles: 3 Conference Titles, 2 Challenge Cups, 2 League Titles and 2 Playoff Championships. Lord is officially the most successful head coach in Devils history and is only 5 years into his coaching career.
Before arriving in Cardiff as a player, Lord spent time in the AHL with the Oklahoma City Barons for one and a half seasons, where after a season ending injury was given the opportunity to help the coaching staff. This became a great learning experience for him and the knowledge acquired has helped him tremendously in his coaching role.
Before turning professional, Lord played four years of NCAA Division 1 University hockey in the USA. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He also earned his MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2016. Lord was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada and played his minor hockey in Vancouver.
Luke Piggott | Player/Assistant Coach
Luke Piggott has been with the Devils for the past 7 seasons as a player, but has moved into a player/assistant coach role with the club for the 2018-19 season.
Piggott was born in Calgary, Canada but came through Basingstoke's junior ice hockey setup before moving to Cardiff to play for the Devils ENL side in 2004-05. He worked his way up to eventually get the call to play at the Elite League level in 2011-12 and has been a mainstay ever since.
32-year-old Piggott balances his hockey career with a full-time career at the Wales Cancer Research Centre who work closely with the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Instituteat Cardiff University, researching ways to target stem cells in breast cancer patients, and his official title is Dr Luke Piggott.
Piggott has taken on a bigger role with the club this year, his first in a coaching role, supporting Andrew Lord on a day-to-day basis with video analysis as well as on the ice. He is also behind the bench with Lord on game night. The respect he gets from his teammates has made him an asset in the locker room, behind the bench and in the coaches' offices.
Luke has been a big part of the turnaround in the club since the new ownership and management structure took over the club in July 2014. Since that time, he has lifted 2 Challenge Cups, 3 Conference Trophies, back-to-back League Titles and most recently the Playoff Championship.
Dan Brabon | Goaltending Coach
Brabon has been working with the Devils and specifically with Ben Bowns since the reigning EIHL Netminder of the Year joined the Devils for the 2014-15 season. He works with Bowns and Thomas Murdy on a day to day basis to improve their on-ice performance and skill development.
Brabon also works with the Swindon Wildcats of the NIHL and the Okanagan Hockey Academy Under-18s. He is originally from Cardiff and is one of the coaches in the Junior Devils Ice Hockey Club as well as being a Trustee for the club.
