Biography
Kozun joins the Devils this year after spending the 2020-21 season in the ECHL
Before that, he was a league MVP in the Canadian University USports League where he starred for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for 3 years.
In 2018-19, he started 23 games, going 20-3 for the Huskies while posting a 1.81 goals against average (GAA) and a 92.6% save rate (SV%). His performance earned him a selection to the All Canadian First All-Star Team and he was named Usports Goaltender of the Year for the whole country.
In 2019-20, Kozun played 22 league games for the Huskies, posting a 1.87 GAA and a 93.1% SV%, winning 17 of his 22 starts. He led his team to the Canada West Championship winning all 4 playoff games and posting a 1.84 GAA along the way.
For the second straight season, he was named to the All Canadian First All-Star Team and named USports Goaltender of the Year. He was also selected as the USports Player of the Year.
His 2020-21 season of professional hockey was a tough one for the 26 year old from Nipawin, Saskatchewan as he caught Covid early in the season. He then was traded to a number of teams because he already had recovered from the virus and when teams needed a goalie, he was able to travel and play. He ended up playing for 7 teams over the course of the season and was looking for more stability for the coming season.
