DEVILS WIN IN NOTTINGHAM

The Devils finally got a win in Nottingham with a 4-2 win over the Panthers on Saturday night.

Ben Bowns got the start for a second straight night and River Rymsha replaced Chad Pietroniro in the Devils’ lineup, which meant Evan Mosey moved up to play forward on a line with Justin Crandall and Brandon Alderson.

The Devils killed an early penalty when they were called for too many men five minutes into the first period.  The Devils got their first chance on the powerplay when Michael Caruso was called for high-sticking at 17:15.  It took 6 seconds to score with the man advantage when Jamie Arniel won the face-off and Trevor Cox tapped the puck to Bode Wilde who fired a bullet over the shoulder of Rok Stojanovic to give the Devils a 1-0 lead at 17:21.

Thirty seconds later, Justin Crandall pulled up and found Rymsha joining the play who slid the puck between the legs of Stojanovic with a nice backhand to make it 2-0 at 17:51.

The Devils were consistently solid through the first two periods of play, giving up very few scoring chances and outshooting the Panthers 18-16 after 40 minutes of play.

The third period saw the Panthers come out absolutely flying.  They threw everything they had at the net, and it paid off.  First it was Jake Ryczek who twisted and turned at the blueline to shake off a Devils forward then fooled Bowns with a shot that somehow trickled through his legs to make it 2-1 at 44:22.  Less than a minute later, Didrik Henbrant cut to the net and tucked the puck past Bowns to tie the game at 2-2 with less than five minutes gone in the period.

At 50:27, Ryan Barrow chipped the puck to Cole Ully who passed to Arniel just as he skated into the Panthers’ zone.  Arniel dangled around the Nottingham defender and tucked the puck past Stojanovic to give the Devils a 3-2 lead with less than 10 minutes to play.  With the clock ticking down and the Panthers with an empty net, Mark Richardson found Joey Martin at the side of the net to make it 4-2 with 25 seconds to play.

Bowns was in top form, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced including 19 saves in the third period alone.  Jamie Arniel picked up Man of the Match for his game winning goal and the Devils got their first win over the Panthers in Nottingham in three years.
