The Devils rounded off their weekend in Scotland with another win, this time over the Dundee Stars. The Devils went with the same line-up from the night before in Fife but started Ben Bowns in net instead of Tyler Wall.
The Devils opened the scoring early when Cole Sanford was sprung for a breakaway and he slid the puck between the legs of Lucas Brine in the Dundee goal to make it 1-0 at 5:04. Dundee tied the game on a shot from Jake Elmer that fooled Bowns and beat him low at 12:01.
The Devils took a 3-1 lead with two quick goals, first a shot from Joey Martin that trickled over the goal line to make it 2-1 at 16:15 then Mark Richardson fed Tyler Busch at the side of the net to beat Brine at 17:41 and give the Devils a 2-goal advantage after 20 minutes of play.
The Stars battled back in the second period to tie the game; first Elmer scored his second goal of the game at 31:09 then Carter Johnson tipped in a shot from Drydn Dow at 34:50 to make it 3-3. A late powerplay for the Devils allowed them to take the lead through a strange goal. Bode Wilde set up Cody Donaghey for a blast from just inside the blueline, but he barely caught the puck, and it would have been going wide but deflected off of Trevor Cox and behind Brine to make it 4-3 at 38:26. That goal was Cox’s 200th point as a Cardiff Devil.
The Devils extended their lead less than two minutes into the final period when Busch scored his second goal of the game, tipping a shot from Wilde past Brine to make it 5-3 at 41:48. The Stars dominated the chances for the rest of the game, outshooting the Devils 17-5 in the third period but they could not find a way past Bowns. Ben Davies added an empty net goal with 1:10 left to play to round out the scoring at 6-3.
Tyler Busch picked up the Man of the Match for his two-goal performance and Ben Bowns got the win making 39 saves from 42 shots.
