DEVILS WIN BIG ON THE ROAD IN MANCHESTER
The Devils completed a 4 point weekend with a 6-1 win in Manchester over the Storm. Tyler Wall led the way with 29 saves for his second victory of the weekend. The Devils were missing Ben Bowns, Evan Mosey, Mark Richardson, Ben Davies and Josh Waller who were with the GB National Team along with Head Coach Pete Russell and Assistant Coach Euan King. Neil Francis stepped in and took the coaching reigns with support from Todd Kelman on the bench.
The Devils opened the scoring 10:24 into the first period when Brandon Alderson slammed in a pass from Justin Crandall to make it 1-0. The Devils doubled their lead on the powerplay with Austin Farley in the box for slashing. Joey Martin fired the puck low past Evan Weninger to make it 2-0 at 18:03, a lead they held into the first intermission.
The Devils got into penalty trouble midway through the second period when Tyler Wall was called for shooting the puck over the boards then less than a minute later, they were called for too many men on the ice to give the Storm a 5 on 3 powerplay.
The penalty killers went to work and kept the Storm off the board then scored the lone goal of the period at 36:08 through Sam Duggan who was set up by Riley Brandt and Josh Batch to give the Devils a 3-0 lead.
Bode Wilde made it 4-0 after he showed great patience at the blueline then fired a rocket past Weninger at 46:20. Less than a minute later Brandt finished off a pass from Crandall to make it 5-0 and end the night for Weninger who was replaced by Alexander Oldale at 47:03.
The Storm spoiled Tyler Wall’s shutout bid at 51:06 when C.J. Garcia blasted a slapshot through traffic to make it 5-1. Cole Ully rounded off the scoring at 57:01 when he scored on a rebound past Oldale with Ryan Barrow and Jamie Arniel drawing the assists to make it 6-1.
Tyler Wall was the star of the night for Cardiff, making 29 stops including a breakaway and several big saves to lead the Devils to victory.
