BOWNS STOPS 37 SHOTS IN DEVILS WIN

The Devils are away in Scotland this weekend and on Saturday night they were in Dundee to take on the Stars.  Ben Bowns got the start in goal for the Devils while the Stars went with Kevin Carr in net.  The Devils were without three players – Joey Martin and Ryan Barrow who both remain side-lined with injury, and Chad Pietroniro who is serving a 3-game ban.

The Devils came out flying in the opening minutes of the game with a couple good chances early on, but Carr was there to keep them at bay.  The pressure resulted in a powerplay for the Devils, but it was the Stars who opened the scoring with a short-handed goal.

Spencer Naas broke into the Devils zone and took a pass from Brendan Harms and beat Bowns with a quick shot between his legs to make it 1-0 at 9:15.  The Devils had another powerplay but failed to score and the period ended with the Stars holding their one-goal lead despite the Devils outshooting Dundee 13-7.

It only took the Devils 10 seconds into the second period to tie the game up when Brandon Alderson drove the puck along the goal line and beat Carr to make it 1-1.  Jamie Arniel then set up Justin Crandall with a wide open net on a 2 on 1 to make it 2-1 for the Devils at 25:40.  Naas equalised for Dundee with his second goal of the game at 27:01, but the Devils took the lead at 36:14 when Cole Sanford was set up by Cole Ully to beat Carr and make it 3-2, a lead the Devils held after two periods of play.

The Stars came hard at the Devils in the final period as they pressed for the tying goal.  Ben Bowns was tested a number of times, but he was there to make every save.  As the clock ticked down, the Stars pulled Carr for the extra attacker with just under two minutes to play.

A collision just inside the blueline had the Stars calling for a penalty but instead Justin Crandall picked up the loose puck and scored into the empty net to seal the 4-2 win.  Drydn Dow was called for abuse of official after the play and Dundee Head Coach Marc Lefebvre was tossed out of the game for the same.  Ben Bowns stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced, and Cole Ully picked up the Man of the Match for the Devils.
