Mark Richardson has been named captain of the Cardiff Devils.
Now in his 14th season with the Devils, Richardson has been one of the league’s best blueliners for the last decade. He has also been an assistant captain with Team GB for the past 8 years.
His assistant captains are Brendan Mikkelson, Stephen Dixon and Sam Duggan.
Mikkelson is in his first season with the Devils. The 34 year old defenceman brings experience from the top leagues in the world, including 131 games over 5 seasons in the NHL.
Stephen Dixon is in his third season with the Devils after winning the playoffs in 2019, then having the 2019-20 campaign cut short due to Covid. At 35 years old, Dixon brings a wealth of experience from top leagues across Europe and has iced in 127 games for the Devils over 2 seasons.
Duggan at 23 years old is the youngest of the group but has already played 121 games for the Devils over 2 seasons. He spent last season in Sweden before a stint with the Coventry Blaze in the EIHL Series event last April. He also played with Team GB at the World Championships in May.
Head Coach Jarrod Skalde also confirmed that Brodie Dupont would take on a player/assistant coach role for the season. Dupont spent the last two seasons with Herning in the top Danish League. He is a former 3rd round NHL draft pick and played 1 game with the New York Rangers back in 2010-11. He played 8 years in the American Hockey League before moving over to Europe where he has been for 6 of the last 8 seasons.
