Viola Arena has been named as Welsh Sports Venue of the Year at the 2019 Welsh Hospitality Awards.
At Monday night’s prestigious presentation event at the Exchange Hotel in Cardiff, the Viola Arena beat strong opposition including Cardiff City Stadium, Sophia Gardens, Chepstow Racecourse and the Liberty Stadium in Swansea to take top place in the highly competitive ‘Best Sports Venue’ Category.
Todd Kelman, Managing Director of the Cardiff Devils and Head of Operations at the Arena said “this is a great achievement and underlines the hard work of everyone involved at the Viola Arena. We’re all really proud of this award. It recognises the versatility of the venue and the hard work of the staff.”
Chris Baybutt of Greenbank Partnerships, builders and owners of the world-class ice facility, said “we are delighted that our investment and commitment to delivery of this and other facilities at Cardiff Bay has been recognised and acknowledged in this way.
“It gives great encouragement to continue our commitment, with our various partners, to the good work we are already doing and planning to do in the future in Cardiff.”
Over the last 12 months, the Viola Arena has hosted Boxing, Cage Fighting, Jiu Jitsu, Cheerleading competitions, Welsh Netball Internationals along with top-flight ice hockey, figure skating and synchronised skating. On a weekly basis thousands of people also enjoy public skating at the Arena.
