The Devils are pleased to confirm the re-signing of Cardiff born forward Matthew Myers for the upcoming 2017/18 season.
Myers returned to the Devils last season after a year in Nottingham having played the previous 2 seasons in Cardiff. In 2016/17 he scored 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 65 games. He has played over 650 games in the EIHL and has also been a mainstay with Team GB for the past 14 years and this past April played a major role in leading Team GB to the Gold Medal at the World Championships.
Myers is one of the most decorated players in Elite League history winning 7 Challenge Cups, 5 Playoff titles and 2 league championships over his 13 years in the EIHL. He has an incredible record of winning the Challenge Cup 7 times including the last 3 years in a row, in 2015 and 2017 as a Devil with a year in Nottingham in between when he once again lifted the Cup as a Panther.
Myers grew up playing in the Cardiff junior system and made his Devils debut during the 2001-02 season. He has gone on to have an incredible career first with the Devils and then with the Nottingham Panthers where he played for 8 years before returning to his hometown team for the 2013/14 season.
As well as welcoming back Matthew for another year, we are pleased to confirm that Grosvenor Casino will once again be sponsoring Myers for the season.
Vince Dale, General Manager of Grosvenor Casino Cardiff said:
"We are delighted and proud to be sponsoring Matthew Myers again for the upcoming season. He had a great season with the Devils and with Team GB last year and to factor that in with Matthew being a local lad, it made the decision to sponsor him again a very simple one.
"It has been great to partner with the Devils and we are delighted with how the success on and off the ice has helped our brand. The club certainly has a great feel about it and it's superb to be a part of it again."
Devils player/coach Andrew Lord also spoke very highly of Myers and what he brings to the team:
“Matthew is an ideal power forward for this league. He uses his size to his advantage, is great in the corners and is probably one of the best face-off guys in the league.
“He played a pivotal role in our success last season and we are pleased to welcome him back for another year.”
