The Devils are delighted to confirm the re-signing of netminder Thomas Murdy for the 2019-20 season.
The 28-year-old joined the Devils in 2016 from the Telford Tigers and has been part of a goaltending duo with Ben Bowns in the Devils net since. In the last three seasons the duo has backstopped the Devils to 7 trophies (2 league titles, 2 conference titles, 2 playoff titles and 1 Challenge Cup).
In his last season with Telford, Murdy had the best save percentage in the league as well as the best GAA (2.34) and made the EPIHL All-star first team while backstopping the Tigers to both the EPIHL league and cup title. Prior to his time in Telford, the Whitley Bay native spent time in the EIHL with Coventry Blaze and the Swindon Wildcats in the EPIHL.
Murdy has also represented Team GB from U16 to the senior team and been a part of the back to back gold medal winning squads and was in Slovakia this summer when Team GB managed to stay in Pool A.
Head coach Andrew Lord spoke of the re-signing of Murdy and said:
“The strength of our goaltending gives us a chance to win every night.
“I believe we have the best goaltending team in the EIHL. Murdy is the perfect partner to complement Bownsy and has pushed him every day to get better. Their friendship and understanding of each other is unique and makes them both better.”
