Matias Sointu is moving on after 10 weeks with the Cardiff Devils.
He has opted to go back to Finland after his most recent 5 week contract expired with the hopes of signing in a higher European league.
The 29 year-old Finnish forward played a total of 21 games for the Devils scoring 5 goals and 11 assists for 16 points. He finished as the Devils leading scorer in this year’s Champions Hockey League competition with 1 goal and 5 assists in 5 games.
“We always knew this was a temporary situation and that Matias would be looking at other leagues throughout Europe,” explained Devils Head Coach Andrew Lord.
“We have really benefitted having Matias with the club, he has been great for us. He came in when we needed someone for injury cover and he ended up being an impact player for us.
“I don’t think the door is ever closed with players like him. You never know when you could see him back in Cardiff in years to come.”
Sointu had this to say about his time with the Devils:
“I have really enjoyed being a part of the Cardiff Devils. The fans are great and the organisation treat the players very well. I have enjoyed the experience, especially playing in the Champions League and I wish the team well for the rest of the season.”
