Martin’s hat-trick leads way in comeback over Lightning

Despite trailing 4-1 after 22 minutes, the Devils battled back to squeeze out a 6-5 win over Milton Keynes.

The Devils got off to an ideal start with Stephen Dixon scoring at 2:29 off a rebound after Patrick Killeen initially robbed Sam Duggan with a point-blank opportunity.

The Lightning took over from there scoring 4 unanswered goals to build up a 4-1 lead.  The first two were both scored by Robbie Baillargeon, his first at 4:35 then his second at 11:29 to give the visitors the 2-1 lead.

Tim Wallace made it 3-1 beating Ben Bowns at 17:29 to end the period with a two-goal advantage, but they weren’t done there.  Just 1:59 into the middle period, David Norris fired a cannon over the shoulder of Bowns to make it 4-1 and silence the sold out crowd at Viola Arena.

Then the comeback was on.

At 24:54 Joey Martin scored his first of the game to pull the Devils within 2 goals. Just 81 seconds later Sean Bentivoglio made it 4-3 with a nice set up from Mike Hedden and Gleason Fournier.
