Longtime Devil Joey Haddad will not return to the Cardiff Devils for the upcoming season.
Haddad will spend the 2021-22 season with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the ECHL where he captained the side last season. Former Devils Coach Andrew Lord originally signed Haddad in Greenville after the 2020-21 EIHL season was put on ice due to Covid-19.
Haddad put up a career best 35 goals and 33 assists for 68 points in 59 games in all Elite League competitive games in 2019-20. He finished 2nd overall in the League scoring race whilst leading the Devils in goals, points and powerplay goals.
Haddad was voted onto the League’s First All-Star Team for the first time in his 6 years playing for the Devils. He also picked up four team awards being chosen as the Devils’ Forward of the Year, Red Army Travel Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player and Player’s Player of the Year.
In his six seasons as a Devil, Haddad won 3 Conference Titles, 2 Challenge Cups, 2 League Titles and 2 Playoff Championships.
Managing Director Todd Kelman spoke about Haddad:
"Joe has been one of the best signings we ever made and was a huge reason for the success of this team over the past 6 seasons. He helped us build a winning culture here and made sure guys coming into this team understood what it meant to be a Cardiff Devil.
"We are lucky to have had him for so many years and I want to thank him for everything he did for this club. Like our fans, I am sad to see him go, I love the guy, he is a great player and an awesome person.
"I wish him the best of luck in Greenville and I hope that the winning culture they helped build here in Cardiff carries over into Greenville and gets Lordo and Joey a championship next season."
