After an impressive first season as a Devil, defenceman Carl Hudson has signed for another year in Cardiff ready to build on what the team started in 2014-15.
Hudson is one of the smoothest skaters in the league and his ability to jump into the play was a big reason he is so dangerous to play against. His 14 goals were second in the league for defencemen last year, with only teammate Andrew Hotham scoring more. His 43 points were good for 4th overall in scoring by blueliners, despite missing 8 games to injury early in the season.
Player/Coach Andrew Lord spoke about his first defenceman to sign up for the 2015-16 campaign:
“Hudson has a lot of skill and can skate like the wind. It makes him difficult to play against at both ends of the ice and tough to get past in our zone.
'There are very few d-men in this league that carry the puck as well as he does and as good as he is at home, he is even better on the big ice.'
“We need to build a team that can make the move from the smaller surface at the BBT to an Olympic pad in the new Arena. Carl is one of those guys that benefits from more ice in front of him and he sees the play so well that he adds an element of offence every time he is on the ice.”
Director of Hockey Operations, Neil Francis added:
“His teammates love him, he is a great person and he wasn’t looking to go anywhere else. He is actually staying in Cardiff year round to train and will be on the ice all summer, something he doesn’t have the luxury of normally doing in the off-season.
“This is a great start to building a solid defensive unit, which we all felt was a real key to our success last season. With Bowns already signed up and now Huddy, we are looking strong this season at the back.”
