Hat-trick hero Pope leads the charge for Devils over Storm

Matt Pope scored a natural hat-trick on Saturday Night as the hometown Devils skated to a 4-1 win over the visiting Manchester Storm.

Ben Bowns made 28 saves for the Devils and the penalty killing was perfect, stopping all 6 man advantages for the Storm.

Manchester opened the scoring at 4:29 when Chris Auger finished off a pass from Shane Baker to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The only goal of the opening period for the Devils came at 12:24 when Matt Pope stepped around the Storm defender and fired the puck high over Matt Ginn with Joey Martin drawing the lone assist to tie the game at 1-1.

Pope gave the Devils the lead 3 minutes into the middle period finishing off a pass from Sean Bentivoglio putting the home side up 2-1 at 23:19.

Midway through the period, the Storm had a golden opportunity to get back into the game when Sean Bentivoglio was given 2 minutes for hooking and 2 minutes for high-sticking on the same play.  The result was a 4 minute powerplay for the Storm, but the Devils penalty-killing came up big when they needed to most.
