The Cardiff Devils are pleased to confirm that All-Star Forward Joey Martin will return for another season.
The 2019-20 season will be his 6th with the Devils after originally signing with Cardiff in the summer of 2014 just after Andrew Lord took over the coaching reigns.
Martin has been voted a First Team Elite League All-Star in each of his 5 seasons, 3 times winning EIHL Forward of the Year and twice picking up the EIHL Player of the Year.
Last season Martin led the Devils in goals with 40 in 71 games played. He also led the team with 14 powerplay goals and his 85 points in all competitions put him 4th overall in EIHL scoring in all competitions.
He finished the season lifting his 2nd Playoff Championship in a row and his 9th trophy in 5 seasons with the Devils.
Head Coach Andrew Lord spoke about Joey Martin and what he brings to the Devils:
“There isn’t a player on any team in this league I would take over Joey Martin, he is the complete player and a proven winner. He has consistently been one of the best players in the EIHL every year and he continues to get better.
“The EIHL has improved every year over the last 5 seasons but Marty has improved with it. He doesn’t take days off, he works on his game relentlessly all season long, he constantly wants to get better.
“Joey epitomises what a professional sports person should be on and off the ice. He is a workhorse in training and wants to get better every day. He plays his best in the big games and prepares to succeed every day. He is also great with the fans, great with the younger fanbase especially and has time for everyone.
“We are pleased to have him back and he is the first piece of the puzzle in place for us to start building another championship team.”
