Two goals from Stephen Dixon and 24 saves from Ben Bowns led the way for the Devils on Wednesday Night as they doubled up on the Glasgow Clan 4-2.
Before the puck dropped, the Devils Head Coach Andrew Lord spoke about the importance of the opening goal, which his team finally got with 1:14 left to play in the opening period. Bryce Reddick hammered a slapshot from just inside the Clan zone and Mike Hedden got a stick on it to tip it past Joel Rumpel to make it 1-0 at 18:46.
The Devils doubled their lead just 48 seconds into the middle period when Stephen Dixon converted on a pass from Matt Pope to give the Devils a 2 goal lead.
At 24:07, the Devils extended their lead courtesy of a great rush up the ice by Drew Scheistel that was finished off with a cannon that beat Rumpel to make it 3-0.
At 32:13 the home side finally got on the board when Matt Beca beat Ben Bowns to give the Clan some life and make it 3-1. Dixon’s 2nd goal of the game re-established the 3 goal cushion for the Devils when he scored to make it 4-1 at 36:24.
The Clan came out flying in the final period, but despite outshooting the Devils 13 to 5, they only managed the one goal, which came at 44:11 from Scott Pitt who beat Bowns on the powerplay to make it 4-2.
Despite the Clan piling on the pressure, Bowns was there to shut the door and keep the Devils on top. They held on for the 4-2 win, extending their lead at the top of the Elite League standings to 4 points with 4 games to play.
