The Cardiff Devils have taken the decision to pull out of the Tatra Cup in Poprad starting this coming weekend.
The late decision was made today because some of the players who were meant to arrive over the weekend have been delayed coming in from North America.
A club spokesperson explained:
“We are disappointed that we are not going to Slovakia and we are sorry to let down Poprad HK and the organising committee of the Tatra Cup, but this is the right decision for us.
“The pandemic has reduced the capacity at work visa offices in North America and they are swamped right now. The process that usually takes a few days is taking up to 3 or 4 weeks.
“We would have been putting the players in a dangerous situation playing short-benched with 3 games in 3 nights.
“We are expecting to have all our players in by Friday and will continue to prepare for our home games next week in the Champions Hockey League.”
