The Devils were dealt an injury blow last week when they found out that Cedric Lacroix will miss 6 to 8 weeks with an upper body injury. Paul Thompson was already looking for some additional cover on defence after the departure of Brodie Kay at the end of the pre-season, and MacLean was an ideal fit.
Paul Thompson spoke about the signing of MacLean:
“We have been looking for a defenceman for a few weeks now, and Steven is a good fit. He is a big strong defensive defenceman who skates well. Our defensive core has been great this season but with Lacroix out short-term we always have the option to move Evan Mosey up front.
“Signing Steven gives us some options and also provides additional cover on the blueline for the season. We are excited to get him here this week and get him game ready."
