Dundee Stars picked up a vital win in their pursuit for the final playoff spot on Sunday by knocking off the Devils 3-1.
The Stars outshot the Devils 15 to 7 in the opening period and came away with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes courtesy of Jordan Cownie’s goal at 8:56.
The Stars doubled their lead with a low blast from Brian Hart that had to be reviewed before being called a good goal at 23:58 to put the Stars up 2-0.
The Devils narrowed the lead to one when Mark Richardson scored on the powerplay at 35:34 to leave the Devils trailing 2-1 heading into the final period.
The Devils pushed hard for the tying goal and had numerous chances, but netminder Pontus Sjogren was there to shut the door for the Stars.
With the Devils trailing 2-1, a misplayed puck in their own zone led to an easy insurance goal for the Stars forward Lukas Lundvald-Nielsen with 1:04 to play to seal the win for Dundee.
