The Cardiff Devils came back from a two goal deficit after 20 minutes of play to beat the Coventry Blaze in league action by a scoreline of 6-3.
The Devils scored first at 3:26 on the powerplay when Brent Walton hammered home the pass from Andrew Hotham for his 6th goal of the season. After that goal, the rest of the period was all Coventry, who scored two goals less than 2 minutes apart to take the lead. Ben Arnt scored to tie the game at 9:37 then Steve Goertzen gave the Blaze a 2-1 lead when he scored at 11:23.
The Blaze weren’t done there and with the Devils on the powerplay, Ryan O’Marra scored a short handed goal after a giveaway in the offensive zone to make it 3-1, which is how the period ended.
Whatever Andrew Lord said to the team in between periods must have lit a fire under them because they came out flying and after only 44 seconds Andrew Hotham stepped out of the penalty box to get a perfect pass from Joey Martin to send him in all alone against Brian Stewart, who he slid the puck past to make it 3-2. Joey Martin then tied the game at 8:33 of the middle period with the Blaze on a powerplay with a beauty of a shot between the legs of Stewart for a shorthanded goal with Jake Morissette and Mark Richardson picking up the assists.
With the game tied after 40 minutes of action, it took only 32 seconds into the final period for the Devils to take the lead with their second short handed goal of the game when Hotham was on the spot to bang in a loose puck after Morissette had carried the puck behind the Blaze goal. Midway through the period the Devils took a two goal lead when Andrew Lord fed Morissette with a perfect pass that Morissette tipped past Stewart in goal for the Blaze to make it 5-3 at 8:43 of the third.
The final goal of the game came courtesy of Joey Haddad with his 7th of the season from Chris Jones and Doug Clarkson at 15:05 to give the Devils a 6-3 lead, which is how this one ended.
Another packed out rink for the Devils who will have Paul Bissonnette in the lineup next weekend at home when they take on the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday November 2nd at 6pm.
