The Cardiff Devils are pleased to confirm the signing of Captain Joey Martin for the 2020-21 season.
Martin returns for his seventh season with the Devils after putting up 52 points in 49 games in all competitions for the Devils in 2019-20. He finished the top points scorer for the Devils in the Challenge Cup and finished third in points in the Elite league for the Devils.

After missing the start of the year due to injury, the forward came back into the Devils line-up firing on all cylinders. In October, the Canadian became the Cardiff Devils all-time leading point scorer in the EIHL era after an assist against the Nottingham Panthers. The assist was Martin’s 433rd point in his 345th EIHL game, all as a Devil, beating the record previously set by Max Birbraer.

In his six years with the Devils, Martin has won 3 Conference Titles, 2 Challenge Cups, 2 League Titles and 2 Playoff Championships. He has been an Elite League First Team All-Star five out his six years, along with winning the EIHL Forward of the Year three times and the League’s Most Valuable Player Award twice.

“Joey has been a huge reason why we have been able to do what we have done, over the last 6 seasons,” said Head Coach Andrew Lord.
“He has proven to be one of the top players in the league every single season, and as the league got better and better, so did he. His dedication and work ethic keeps him improving every year and he is a great role model on and off the ice.”

Martin has been with the Devils since the ownership change prior to the 2014-15 season. He was named Captain prior to the start of the 2019-20 season taking over from Jake Morissette. In his 6 years as a Devil he has racked up 182 goals, 305 assists for 487 points in 402 Devils games.
