Bowns Breaks Shutout record with win over Storm

Bowns Breaks Shutout record with win over Storm

For the 29th time in his 5-year career as a Devil, Ben Bowns led his team to victory with a shutout win on Saturday Night.

Highlights of the 4-0 win courtesy of Icetime TV are below:

This time, it was a 27 save effort to beat the Manchester Storm 4-0 for his 9th shut out of the season, his 5th in the month of March and his 4th in a row at home. The Devils played a near perfect game, but despite outshooting the Storm 13 to 5 in the opening period, the game remained scoreless.

An early powerplay in the middle period saw the Devils break the deadlock.  Charles Linglet’s shot was saved by Matt Ginn, but Stephen Dixon and Layne Ulmer both pounced on the rebound and eventually Ulmer hammered the puck past Ginn to put the Devils up 1-0 at 22:18.

At 25:07, Gleason Fournier scored with a wrist shot through traffic from just inside the blueline to double the Devils lead to 2-0.

Two minutes later, the Storm’s Linden Springer and Devil defenceman Mark Louis dropped the gloves with Louis getting the nod on this one to ignite the home crowd.

The Devils held their 2-0 lead into the 3rd period, then at 46:40 Fournier found Charles Linglet at the side of the net who wrapped the puck around the goal to beat Ginn and make it 3-0.

The final nail in the coffin came from Stephen Dixon who blasted a slapshot past Ginn at 46:30 to round out the scoring at 4-0.

With the shutout win, Bowns breaks the franchise shutout record, previously held by Stevie Lyle who finished his impressive Devils career with 28 career shutouts.
