Bowns and Murdy Are Back to Defend League Title

Bowns and Murdy Are Back to Defend League Title

The Devils are pleased to confirm the re-signing of Ben Bowns and Thomas Murdy for the 2018-19 season.

The dynamic duo led the Devils to back to back Elite League titles in 2017 & 2018 capping off last season with the Playoff Championship, the first playoff title for the Devils in 19 years.

Bowns picked up his 3rdstraight EIHL Netminder of the Year and First Team All-Star Selection after the 2017-18 season. Bowns and Murdy were also members of the Gold Medal winning Team GB squad that won promotion to the top level of the World Championships next season.  Bowns led the charge for Team GB and backstopped them to their second straight promotion and Gold Medal.

Bowns posted a 91% save rate and a 2.49 goals against average in 2017-18.  He led the EIHL with 47 wins and posted 7 shutouts, 2ndmost in the EIHL. Murdy posted a 3.28 goals against average, an 88% save rate and 1 shutout in 13 games.

“The strength of our goaltending gives us a chance to win every night,” explained Coach Andrew Lord.

“I believe we have the best goaltending team in the EIHL.  Bownsy has been superb for us and has now proven himself as the best in the league over the last few years.

“Murdy is the perfect goaltending partner to compliment Bownsy. He is always an option and pushes Bownsy every day to get better.  When he steps into a game, nothing changes in front of him.  The guys are comfortable playing in front of either one of them.

“To win in this league you need to have 2 goalies that you have confidence in. There is always going to be a starter and a backup, but you need to have two guys that comes to work every day with an attitude of wanting to improve and wanting to push the team to get better.  We have that with Bowns and Murdy.”
