The Devils fell to the Capitals in Cardiff Bay this evening to complete a weekend without a win

Cardiff Devils lose out to Edinburgh Capitals.
Cardiff Devils welcomed the Edinburgh Capitals to the Cardiff Bay Arena for their Elite League clash. Devils still without the injured Jason Stone had Tylor Michel back from injury as Gerad Adams went back to coach duties on the bench.
 
In a tight opening period, the Devils started with bang as Max Birbraer put in a big hit, which resulted in a 2 minutes interference penalty, but the 1st real chance of the game came from Matt Miller when he created a good short-handed effort for himself, but saw his shot saved.
Edinburgh managed to get a one-on-one chance but Stevie Lyle stood up well to pull off the save. As the Devils stepped up the pressure, both Phil Hill and Wes Jarvis got decent shots off, but again saw their efforts saved.
As Cardiff hit some penalty trouble, Edinburgh had plenty of Power-play chances, with a good 5-on-3 Power play for over 90 seconds, but the Devils defended resolutely and limited the Capitals to just the one shot during that time.
With more penalties handed out towards the end of the period including a 2+10 giving to Jay Latulippe, Max Birbraer had a good short-handed effort saved when he latched onto a Mark Smith cross ice pass, but unfortunately the deadlock could not be broken as the period came to a close. Devils captain Brad Voth picked up a 10 minute misconduct as frustrations from the home team boiled over.
 
Devils started the 2nd period still looking for the opening goal, and Brit pair Jamie Hayes and Ben Davies created good chances for themselves, but both saw their efforts saved by Cody Rudkowsky. At the other end, Stevie Lyle was again called into action with a good pad save to deny Edinburgh, but the visitors were able to re-cycle the puck well and Owen Fussy slotted home at 28:20.
The Capitals almost doubled their lead soon after when then went through on a 2-on-1 break away, but yet again Lyle was able to make the save. Ryan Finnerty pulled off a great jinking move to create some space for himself, but could not convert his scoring chance. The visitors then hit penalty trouble themselves which allowed the Devils a great 5-on-3 Power-play for 1min 43, but the closest they came to scoring was Matt Miller skimming the outside of the post as the Devils were still trying to get their opening goal.
 
Cardiff came out for the 3rd period and straight away Mark Smith executed a great move to open up the Edinburgh defence, but saw his shot well saved. The Devils maintained the pressure as Finnerty, Latulippe and Tylor Michel all got good shots away.
As time started to run out for Cardiff, they called a Time-out with just 6:41 left of the period, but the momentum got taken away from the Devils when they got called for having 6 skaters on the ice. Ryan Finnerty took another 2 minute delay of game call to put an end to the Cardiff’s chances of getting the equaliser they were trying hard to get. Frustrations got the better of Finnerty at the end of the game when he received a Game + Match for abusing official Mike Hicks.
