Challenge Cup Group B
Sheffield Steelers 3 Cardiff Devils 4
What a difference 24 hours can make the Devils lost out at home to the Steelers. However, they gained their revenge with this win by the odd goal in seven. Despite a spirited fight back from the Steelers in the third period the Devils held on for the win.
Cardiff netted the only goal of the first period as Mark Richardson scored his third goal in as many games as he put the visitors in front at 8.14.
The visitors got an early powerplay opportunity at the start of the second period and they took full advantage as Mac Faulkner put them two in front at 23.53. Devils added a third goal again on the powerplay from Faulkner at 33.03. With 61 seconds remaining in the period Chris Blight added a fourth.
The game looked to be over going into the third period. However, a goal from Robert Dowd at 44.16 and then another from Gord Baldwin at 54.42 gave the home side some hope. When Stefan Meyer netted on the powerplay at 58.34 it brought the hosts to within one. Despite pulling goaltender Frank Doyle in the last minute they failed to breach the Devils rear guard and the visitors held on to take the points home.
