Nottingham Panthers 4 - 2 Cardiff Devils
Faceoff: 19:30 - 02/10/12
Panthers picked up their second straight win in more convincing fashion than the final scoreline suggests as Devils were heavily outshot by 49 to 21 and had goaltender Phil Osaer to thank for keeping them in the game for long spells.
The home side were led from the front by David Ling with the experienced Canadian grabbing a hat trick.
It was Ling who opened the nights scoring by firing past Osaer at 6.39 and the same player doubled Panthers lead when finding the net again with 36 seconds of the opening period remaining.
Devils pulled one back early in the second through Mac Faulkner but the home side were soon two goals in front again with Matt Francis counting on the powerplay at 26.21.
The game was effectively over when Ling completed his treble at 3.17 of the third period and although Phil Hill added a second for Devils at 49.02 it was Panthers on the attack for most of the remainder of the game as they fired an impressive 24 shots on target, only to find Osaer in tremendous form in the Devils cage to save his side from a much heavier loss.
