Fife Flyers 5 - 4 Cardiff Devils

The hosts got off to a perfect start as Jason Pitton put them in font with only 31 seconds on the clock. The Devils were back on level terms with a powerplay goal from Jason Batch at 5.03. The hosts regained the lead with a powerplay strike from Casey Haines at 9.17.

 

The hosts had a change of personnel between the pipes at the start of the second period with Bryan Pitton injured Blair Daly took over. Flyers added a third on the powerplay to take a two goal lead at 26.04 as Bobby Chaumont was on target. The Devils pulled one back with a shorthand goal from Max Birbraer at 32.10, to trail 3-2 at the end of the second.

 

The visitors were on level terms early in the third as Tyson Marsh scored at 41.40. There was no further scoring until the 57th minute when Zac Carriveau netted what looked like the game winner at 56.08. However, Devils player/coach Gerard Adams netted just over a minute later at 57.46 to take the game into overtime.

 

With neither team able to find the net in the extra five minutes the game was decided by a penalty shootout. Both teams scored one apiece in the first three shots and when Chris Blight missed Devils fourth it was left up to Jason Pitton to convert to give the Flyers the extra point.
