Fife Flyers 4 - 2 Cardiff Devils

Faceoff: 18:30 - 16/12/12

Flyers impressive home form continued as they won in the old barn for a fifth straight game with Devils three games in three nights proving a hurdle too far.

Unlikely hero for Flyers was defenseman Zac Carriveau, who scored his first two goals of the season to set his side on the way to both points.

A tight opening period saw the home side edge ahead with a goal by Carriveau at 9.59 but within a minute of the second session Devils were level when skipper Stuart Macrae fired past Bryan Pitton in the Flyers cage at 20.28. That seemed to be the way the game was going to end after forty minutes but late on it was Flyers who went ahead again with a powerplay strike by Casey Haines at 38.10.

Into period three and Flyers went 3-1 in front with another powerplay goal, this time Carriveau grabbing his second at 43.54 and that’s the way it stayed until Devils ensured an exciting finish when Josh Batch scored at 57.20.

Devils pressed and goaltender Phil Osaer was pulled late on for the extra skater but at 58.57 Steven McAlpine found the empty net to ease any home nerves and give his side both points.
