Coventry Blaze 2 - 2 Cardiff Devils

Faceoff: 19:30 - 05/09/12

A week after defeating them in Cardiff the Devils travelled to Coventry to face the Blaze in their second pre-season game against them. Though the Devils were without Phil Hill for the trip, Jamie Milam made his debut for the club having arrived in the country the same morning.

Both netminders were in fine form to see the first period finish goalless once again. Early in the second though a long pass from Josh Batch setup Birbraer to open the scoring for the Devils. A series of penalties against Coventry gave Cardiff several chances on the powerplay but a combination of good netminder and good luck kept the Devils out.

As in the first game, the lead didn’t last long. Brad Leeb equalising for the home team on a delayed penalty. With the game level going into the final period it was the Devils who got the go-ahead goal again, Mac Faulkner scoring his first goal for Cardiff.

Once again it looked like the Devils would successfully see the game out despite a late flurry of penalties against them. With a minute to go and Birbraer in the box, Coventry pulled their netminder to give them a two man advantage. As the buzzer sounded to mark the end of the game, the Blaze finally forced the puck over the line. Despite protests from the Cardiff players the goal was allowed to stand and the game finished as a tie.
