Coventry Blaze 2 - 1 Cardiff Devils

Faceoff: 19:00 - 22/09/12

A low scoring encounter at the Skydome saw Blaze grab the vital extra point with a powerplay strike by Greg Leeb in overtime as Devils hit penalty trouble at just the wrong time.

This was a game where both goaltenders; Phil Osaer for Devils and Peter Hirsch for Blaze, excelled, saving no fewer than 65 of 68 shots fired on their respective nets.

The opening period was pretty even while goalless, with the fans getting into this one early thanks to a fight between old foes Devin Didiomete of Devils and Benn Olson of Blaze in the 5th minute.

It was the visitors who struck first early in the second session as Phil Hill netted at 21.10 but Blaze were soon level with skipper Shea Guthrie firing home at 24.24.

Olson was again involved, this time with Devil Tyson Marsh as the game simmered but there was to be no more net finders in regulation thanks to the sterling work of Osaer and Hirsch but in overtime Devils were  assessed to have too many men on the ice and shortly afterwards were called for delaying the game, giving Leeb the opportunity with the 2-man advantage to fire into the net and give his side the extra point.
