A brace from Robert Dowd in the second period increased the Steelers lead as he netted at 27.44 and then again on the powerplay at 29.21. The Devils got on the board at 37.12 with a strike from Mark Richardson.
With 55 seconds gone in the third period Cardiff pulled back another as Andrew Lord netted with a 5 on 3 powerplay. Despite getting this early strike the home side could not make any further in roads and the Steelers took the points.
