Cardiff Devils 4 - 2 Dundee Stars

Faceoff: 19:30 - 25/10/12

Despite being 2-0 down with just a period to go, the Cardiff Devils fought back to defeat the Dundee Stars and move up to third place in the league table.

Dundee showed they were to be no pushovers by taking the lead in the first minute, Billy Bagron scoring after a Devils mix-up in the neutral zone.

The closest Cardiff came to equalising was when Adam Harding hit the crossbar, but early in the second period Dundee doubled their lead. With Mark Smith in the bin, the Stars took their time on the powerplay before Pat Bowen scored with a slapshot to make it 2-0.

Desperate for a goal to get themselves back into the game, the Devils created several good chances but Dundee netminder Nic Ropel was in fine form to keep them out.

Still trailing after two periods, Cardiff produced another third period comeback to completely turn the game around in their favour. Just two minutes after the restart, a quick-counter attack saw Max Birbraer fake the shot before slipping a perfect pass through to Mac Faulkner who rounded Ropel and slid the puck in.

Three minutes later the Devils were level. Chris Blight broke into the Dundee zone and though the Stars managed to poke the puck off him, Birbraer picked up the loose puck and passed it to Faulkner who ripped a one-timer into the net.

Cardiff were now all over their visitors and with five minutes remaining they took the lead for the first time in the game.  Faulkner’s shot from distance was blocked but once again Birbraer picked up the puck before turning and shooting past the netminder himself.

With time ticking down the Devils fore-checked with strength to keep Dundee penned back in their own zone, only for Stuart MacRae to be sent to the bin with twenty seconds remaining. The Stars pulled their netminder for a 6-on-4 powerplay, but once again the Devils fore-checked strongly and stole the puck, allowing Chris Blight to score an empty net goal and seal the 4-2 victory.
