Hull Stingrays 3 - 5 Cardiff Devils
Faceoff: 18:00 - 19/02/12
Devils picked up their fourth straight win in a game they were always ahead in with their powerplay unit in top form on the night, counting for three of the goals scored, with skipper Stuart Macrae leading the way with a double.
Devils dominated the opening period and outshot Stingrays by 19 to 6 but only had a strike by Macrae after 9.19 on a 5 on 3 powerplay to show for it.
A similar pattern in the second period with Christian Boucher in the Stingrays net working overtime to keep the visitors out but even he could only do so much as goals by Jeff Pierce at 28.17 and Macrae at 36.57 on the powerplay had Devils 3-0 ahead before player/coach Sylvain Cloutier pulled one back on the powerplay at 38.57.
When Jason Silverthorn grabbed Stingrays second at 48.32 it was a one-goal game but Devils upped their game and scored just over a minute later to end any hopes of a home comeback – player/coach Gerad Adams on the mark at 49.46. A couple of late strikes ended the scoring, with Ben Davies making it 5-2 Devils at 56.06 on the powerplay before Silverthorn scored his second at 57.58 to see the end to a disappointing night for his side.
