Hull Stingrays 2 - 1 Cardiff Devils

Faceoff: 18:00 - 29/01/12

The two teams counted some 13 goals between them as Devils won 8-5 in Wales on Saturday night but it was a whole lot tighter in the return in Hull as regulation and overtime saw the sides score only once each before Stingrays claimed the vital extra point in a shootout.

A pretty even opening period so neither side able to break the deadlock but both scored within two minutes of each other in the middle session with Kenton Smith firing Devils ahead at 28.14 only for Jason Silverthorn to level at 29.47.

Devils turned up the heat as the game wore on but Christian Boucher was in great form between the home pipes and the scoreline remained unaltered right to the end of sixty minutes.

The visitors were still the more likely in overtime and missed a great chance to win it when Scott Matzka failed with a penalty shot at 63.40.

Into the shootout we went and with Dmitry Rodin being the only scorer with Stingrays second shot the extra point was in the hands of Sylvain Cloutier’s men.
