Justin Faryna scored 4 times and Gleason Fournier & Jake Morissette added 3 assists apiece in an impressive home win over the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday night.
Despite outshooting the Panthers 10 to 4 in the opening period, the only goal came off the stick of Jeff Brown on a Panthers powerplay at 6:32 to give the visitors the lead going into the first intermission.
The middle period was all Devils as the home side scored four times to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Justin Faryna evened the scoreline at 21:28 then scored his 2nd of the game less than a minute later to make it 2-1 at 22:25. Layne Ulmer tipped in a shot from Matt Pope on the powerplay to put the Devils up 3-1 at 27:29, then Joey Haddad made it 4-1 at 35:49 when he walked out from the corner and tucked the puck past Patrick Galbraith in net for the Panthers.
The third period saw Faryna score his hat-trick goal at 50:24 to make it 5-1, then just 18 seconds later Paul Crowder tapped in a rebound from a shot by Jake Morissette to give the Devils a 6-1 lead and end the night for Galbraith who was replaced by Michael Garnett in goal for the Panthers.
Faryna scored his 4th goal of the night at 53:27 to give the Devils a 7-1 lead, but the Panthers scored twice on the powerplay to end the period. First it was Zach Phillips at 56:43 then at 59:24 Yann Sauve fired a laser through the crowd past Thomas Murdy who had replaced Ben Bowns in goal for the Devils midway through the period.
The game ended 7-3 and Justin Faryna was the obvious choice for Man of the Match after scoring 4 goals and 1 assist for 5 points on the night.
