What a weekend
The Cardiff Devils organisation has just had a fantastic three days, as the Elite League team battled to an impressive 6 points our of six, winning three games in three days against Scottish opposition.
Stevie Lyle allowed a miserly 3 goals across the three games in Dundee, Fife and Edinburgh, whilst the weekend was capped in the most dramatic fashion possible as Scott Matzka fired home the winner against Edinburgh with just 0.1 second left on the clock in overtime.
Devils fans flocked north of the border, with several hundred in attendance at each game. So impressive was the support that Head Coach Gerad Adams asked the fans to remain in the Edinburgh rink to thank them. Devils Captain Stuart MacRae spoke to the Red Army, expressing the gratitude of the team for the overwhelming commitment.
At home in Cardiff Bay on Saturday saw an outstanding team performance from the ENL Devils side also, as they powered to a 3-0 shutout defeat of arch rivals Invicta Dynamos in front of their biggest crowd of the season.
Whilst the team still carries injuries to Brad Voth and Max Birbraer, there was positive news last week when long-term injury Mark Smith skated in practice for the first time in months, giving the Devils some hope he might make a return this season.
A huge match against Sheffield Steelers is next for the EIHL Devils, Wednesday 18th at 7:30pm in Cardiff Bay. Both teams have games in hand on those above them and this is a crucial match for two great rivals.
