Piggott signs for Devils
Posted on 25 April 2012
The Cardiff Devils are delighted to annoucne the signing of Luke Piggott for the 2012-13 Season.
The 26 year old centreman, a lefty, was born in Calgary in Alberta but has been very much Cardiff based for many years.
Piggott is another product of the ENL Devils and follows Adam Harding in making the jump from ENL1 to the Elite League as he signs for EIHL Head Coach Gerad Adams for the coming season.
A prolific scorer in the ENL ranks (over 1.6 points per game), Piggott registered just the one goal in his appearances for the Devils last year but it was a crucial one: his marker was one of the key trio of goals for the Devils in the Playoff semi-final against Belfast Giants, helping them to the Playoff final once again. 'Piggsie' as he is known can be seen celebrating that great goal in the photo by Helen Brabon, above.
Off the ice Piggott became known across the Globe following a scientific breakthrough he made in his research of Breat Cancer, gaining him deserved praise and academic acclaim. You can read more about his work HERE
Adams said:
'Luke is a guy that really stepped up for us. He will continue to work on improving his game, and we will help him, however his enthusiasm and energy were a real boost for us when we lost key guys through injury last season. It's right that his hard work is rewarded and like Adam Harding before him we are excitied to have him with us.'
Piggott has joined other young Devils in hitting the gym hard to pack on some muscle mass for next year, ready for the grind of a full EIHL season.
Adams is holding further talks with other Devils players from last year in the next 24 hours and the Devils anticipate more signing news before long.
