Devils Defensive Duo Bring Strength
The Cardiff Devils are pleased to welcome defensive lynchpins Brad Plumton and Adam Ross to their 2013/14 line-up.
The 6’2” 200 lbs, 25 year old defenseman Brad Plumton is described as a strong two-way d-man who plays a passionate, physical brand of hockey and is more than willing to drop the gloves. He had a successful career in the BCHL contributing significant points whilst also averaging over 16 fights a season. Brad then spent 3 years playing and studying in Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Last season Brad added experience of playing on the big ice surfaces in Sweden Division 1 scoring 7 goals and 17 points including 3 game-winning goals in 3 straight games.
Former coaches had this to say about Brad:
"Brad was always a player who played hard for his teammates, and made life miserable for the opposition. He played the game efficiently and was counted on against the other teams best players. He put in the time to improve himself, which became apparent in his last season, where he was a key component to our power play,"
Gerad Adams spoke of the research done on Plumton,
“All of our references commented how Brad was a fans’ favourite with his style of play and his off-ice contribution to the community. We believe we have found a true Cardiff Devils type player and we are excited about what Brad will bring to our team this season.”
In a “Devils Double Whammy” announcement the club also welcome 26 year old, 6’4” 210 lbs defensive defenseman Adam Ross from Red Deer, Alberta. A great team player, who is known for contributing a hard working shift every night and will be a big contributor to the team’s penalty kill unit. Adam spent 4 years in Merrimack College in the NCAA and captained the team in 2010-11 which was their most successful season to-date. For the past 2 seasons Adam has played for Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL where he has led the team in fights (10) in each season. He has earned a reputation as a tough competitor who is willing to step up to defend his team-mates. Adam’s solid performances saw him called up to Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL for the last 4 games of the season.
Adam is also Assistant Captain for Team Canada inline hockey team and won a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships and a bronze medal at this year’s Championships. Adam takes great pride in his physical condition and is described as a ‘workout machine’. He also works in the summer as a personal trainer so will quickly find common ground with his team-mates Ben Davies and Phil Hill who both possess personal training qualifications.
Devils’ Assistant Coach Neil Francis has been instrumental in recruiting the hard hitting defensive tandem for the club.
“We understand the importance of being team tough in Cardiff and putting together a team that competes physically every night. Both Brad and Adam are exciting additions to our roster and players that will fit the Devils' style of play. We look forward to giving them a great reception when they arrive in Wales this season.”
