Here it is, the amazing video that was played before Sunday's game. Another impressive piece of work from Paul Sullivan of Nutshell Events:
The Devils battled back from a two goal deficit to eventually beat the Giants in the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday night.
Highlights from Belfast are below followed by the match report.
The hometown Giants opened up a two goal lead by scoring twice in the span of 67 seconds midway through the opening period before the Devils started to battle back.
The opening goal of the game came from Steve Saviano on the powerplay when Chris Higgins fed him a perfect pass and he tipped the puck past Ben Bowns in net for the Devils to make it 1-0 at 12:43. Just over a minute later, the Giants doubled their lead when Higgins found Michael Forney who backhanded the puck over Bowns to make it 2-0 at 13:50 of the first period.
The Devils clawed one back through Sean Bentivoglio with his first of the season at 14:57 when Layne Ulmer gave him a pass that he somehow took in stride and shot in a single motion to surprise Jackson Whistle in net for Belfast to make it 2-1.
The first period ended with the Giants holding onto the one goal lead and despite several opportunities at both ends of the ice in the middle period and two powerplay chances for the Devils, the score remained 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period seemed to be end to end chances for both teams but it was the Devils who scored the important tying goal when Mark Richardson found Andrew Hotham at the side of the net and Hotham fired the puck past Whistle to tie the game at 47:17. Two minutes after the tying goal, Whistle was tested again but he came up with a big save, but seemed to be injured on the play. Stephen Murphy came in to replace the injured netminder for the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The Giants had one last chance to win this one when Devils defenceman Gleason Fournier was called for slashing with 1 minute 42 seconds left to play, but the Devils penalty killing unit came up big and managed to keep the puck out of the net as the clock ticked down, forcing this game into overtime. After killing off the final 18 seconds of the man advantage for Belfast, the Devils got a powerplay chance of their own after Jim Vandermeer was called for cross-checking just 1 minute and 16 seconds into extra time. With the Devils on a 4 on 3 powerplay, Patrick Asselin was able to walk out from the corner with the puck and he fired it low past Murphy to win the game for the Devils and complete the comeback with Bentivoglio and Ulmer getting the assists on the game winning goal.
Ben Bowns made 19 saves in the win and Sean Bentivoglio picked up the Man of the Match for the Devils with a goal and an assist in the overtime win. Click here to see the boxscore
