The Cardiff Devils are delighted to confirm the re-signing of forward Patrick Asselin for the 2017/18 season.
Asselin joined the Devils last season after taking a full year off from the sport in 2015/16, but despite the time away from hockey, he quickly established himself as an impact player in the EIHL. Asselin finished with 21 goals and 38 assist for 59 points in 67 games last season. His 21 goals were third on the team and included 5 powerplay goals and 4 game winners.
Along with linemates Joey Haddad and Layne Ulmer, Asselin formed an impressive trio that solidified the Devils with two top lines, either one that could pick apart opposing teams on any given night.
Prior to joining the Devils, Asselin starred for Sonderjyske HC in the top Danish League, winning 3 Danish Championships in a row, twice being selected to the year-end All-Star team and once leading the league in goals and overall points.
Andrew Lord spoke about finally getting Asselin signed up for another season:
“Patrick is a great two-way forward and as good as he is offensively, he is so responsible on the back check and in his own end.
“He is a big game player and can make those game changing plays that have you just in awe. It wasn’t just important for us to get him back, it was vital.”
The return of Asselin means the Devils have managed to bring back every single one of their top 7 scorers on the team last season. Asselin is set to arrive into the UK this weekend along with all his teammates ahead of training camp officially starting on Monday.
