The Manchester Storm sweep into town on Sunday to face the Devils on home ice at ICE ARENA WALES...
The Cardiff Devils have added Jamie Elson to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2015-16 season. He will work closely with bench coach Neil Francis and player/coach Andrew Lord on match nights.
“Last season from January on, Jamie became more and more involved in the hockey side of our business,” explained Managing Director Todd Kelman.
“His knowledge and ability to see the finer details of the game is a huge asset for us. Myself, Neil and Andrew discussed bringing Jamie into a more hockey specific role this season and we trialled it during the pre-season games against Brest and Coventry and we all want to have him more involved going forward.”
Elson has been coaching in the Great Britain National Team program for a number of years, most recently with Team GB under 18s for two years as assistant coach. Prior to that stint, he worked on the GB prospects camps and also had two years with the England under 16s national team.
He has been coaching for 10 years now in Cardiff’s system and spent two years as head coach of the Devils Junior Ice Hockey program. He also led the Devils Under 18s to Cardiff juniors first ever league and national playoff double championship in 2013.
“We had Jamie as the eye in the sky last season for me and Franny and he was a great asset,” said Lord. “Having him on the bench gives us another set of eyes and another opinion that we value. Franny and Jamie worked well together the past couple of weekends and we all agreed that we should continue this. “
Lord finished by saying “Jamie is a great person who has a real passion for the game and for the Cardiff Devils. His character and work ethic are directly in line with what we value here in this organisation.”
