Ben Bowns picks up final EIHL Player of the Week

Devils netminder Ben Bowns has been named the Elite League’s Player of the Week for the PredictorBet Play-off Weekend.

The 27-year-old played a massive part as his team scooped the PredictorBet Play-off title, after beating Sheffield Steelers 3-1 in Sunday’s final. Bowns conceded only one goal in the two games, including a shutout in Saturday’s game, a 4-0 win over Fife Flyers as he faced down 42 shots out of 43.

And, speaking immediately after Sunday’s win, he believes he’s part of one of the best teams ever in his opinion.

“Last year, to lose the way we did was horrible, even now, looking back after the season we had,” Bowns said.

“We’ve won the league and I think this is the best team this country’s ever seen. I know it’s a bold statement, the skill, the speed and to see what we’ve done at this standard is unbelievable and we all deserve it."

It’s the third time this season Bowns has scooped the Player of the Week prize and comes after he was named EIHL British Player of the Year and Netminder of the Year.

This week, he’ll be involved with the GB national team as they prepare for the World Championships in Budapest as they take on Lithuania in two warm-up games in Milton Keynes and Coventry.
