Profile
Stuart MacRae returns after a sensational first season for the Cardiff Devils. Signed as a third line centre, Stuart proved to be a revelation alongside Tylor Michel and Sam Smith and quickly became a fans favourite.
"Stuuuuuuuuuuuu" as he affectionately became known proved to be just as popular with his teammates and his fantastic workrate will see him become club captain for the 2011-12 season.
When we signed Stu last year, questions were asked about whether a player out of the CHL was good enough for the Devils. Hockey ‘experts’ throughout the league said he’d be “average”. When he started a bit slow, taking quite a few games to get his first goal, more questions were asked. Jump forward 12 months and you only have to look at the phenomenal reaction to his re-signing to show how good a season Stu had last year and proved the doubters wrong. Stu is a classic ‘under the radar’ player.
You don’t know how good he is until you play with/coach him. He is super consistent, works his socks off, is a great set-up guy and comes up with big goals too. He can log a load of minutes, plays key roles on the powerplay and penalty kill and can be put out in any key situation and not let you down
While he’s not a ‘raa-raa’ type leader, Stu has total respect from his team-mates, is a calm head in heated situations and leads by example - that’s what makes him a great choice as captain.
