Sam Smith returns for a second season with the Cardiff Devils after a stunning introduction to the Elite League last year.

A former Cardiff Junior Devil who played in the EPL for Swindon Wildcats at the age of 15, Sam left the UK to experience the North American system for a couple of seasons before returning to Wales in the summer of 2011.

His impact as a hard-checking powerforward earned him a regular spot alongside Stuart MacRae and Tylor Michel in what was arguably the best third line in the league. 15 goals and 34 points was a fantastic return for the 19 year old and at the end of the season he was named Young Player of the Year by IHJUK.

Neil Francis: "Sam was a great surprise for us last year and made the step up to the Elite League level really well.

Sam is a huge kid, skates well and has a great shot. He is starting to play more physically now as well and that will only benefit his all-round gamae. Off the ice Sam fitted in really well too. He is very well liked by his team-mates - unless they sit by him snoring on the bus!

They say the second year is the hardest one but Sam has worked hard all summer with Hilly to prepare himself and has made a good start with some big goals."
